Flap Wheels - Mounted & Unmounted

Mounted Flap Wheels and Unmounted Flap Wheels: Our flap wheels are primarily used for metal work. They are usually aluminum oxide but can be made of zirconium. FlapWheels are designed to smooth, polish and finish metal parts that the operator holds and moves back and forth to grind the desired area and the amount.

FAQs
Flap Wheel FAQs

The mount refers to the fact that it has a shank attached to secure it to the motor.  The Unmounted Flap Wheel is just the same except that there is no shank. It attaches to a motor that has a shaft or bore protruding from it.

We provide Flap Wheels in a variety of widths and diameters.  We carry standard sizes in stock and also special order the size you need.

Sandpaper America lists Flap Wheels as "mounted" or "unmounted".  The mounted means that they come with a shank that fits into a drill or drill like machine. The shanks are either 1/4-20 or 1/4" standard (which is similar to a drill biT). The body of the flap wheel is simply flaps of sandpaper protruding outward that once mounted and spun would repeatedly hit the substrate with layer after layer of sandpaper. The unmounted flap wheel is the same thing except it has either a 5/8" or 1" hole in the center instead of the shank and the operator would simply attach onto the bore of stable grinding machine. These are primarily used for metal sanding but can be used on anything that needs to be shaped. They are designed to smooth, finish and polish metal.
